6 Letter Words

6 letter words for Scrabble and Words with Friends

6-letter words are highly sought after in games such as Scrabble or Words with Friends, as they are only one letter short of using all the tiles in a rack. They are the next best thing to Bingo and their potential should not be underestimated.

For starters, having 6 letters means there are 6 values to sum. Even if the letters are low value, they still provide a better chance to boost up the score than shorter ones. Plus, if they are added to an existing word, the result will be a term with surely 7 or more letters, not a Bingo but anyone will take it nonetheless.

For example, the word BROKER can be added to AGE if the latter is already on the board. The result is BROKERAGE. While BROKER alone yields 12 points in Scrabble and 13 in Words with Friends, BROKERAGE is worth 16 and 18 points respectively.

Thus, studying 6-letter words to quickly recognize their anagrams might be a very good strategy to improve your performance as a Scrabble or Words with Friends player.

What are the highest-scoring 6-letter words?

The maximum number of points a player can get from a simple 6-letter word is 35. There are four words that yield this score: PAZAZZ, PIZAZZ, PIZZAZ, and BEZAZZ. The reason they score so high is that they contain three Z (1 letter tile plus two white tiles for the two extra Z).

Other high-scoring words without the only Z tile on the game include QUACKY (24 points), QUOKKA (23 points), and BIJOUX (22 points).

For Words with Friends, high-scoring words without a Z also include common terms such as JACKET, JOYFUL, or JUMPER, each yielding 22 points, JUMBLE with 23 points, and OBJECT which scores 21 points.

What are the lowest-scoring 6-letter words?

The lowest-scoring words are those in which the 6 letters in them are only worth one point each. That means that the lowest score you can get with a 6-letter word is 6 points.

Well-known and commonly played words with this score include SILENT, TERROR, UNREAL, REASON and LISTEN.
